Augusta, Georgia is the second largest city and the second oldest city in this fair state. There are many wonderful things to do and see when visiting Augusta, but I guess the city has “the “one powerful draw that brings tourists from all over the world---The Masters golf tournament. So, let’s talk about this first.

Golf enthusiasts from around the country and around the world travel to Augusta to watch the "The Masters" golf tournament every year. Bobby Jones, a famous golfer from the early 20th Century, designed and founded the Augusta National Golf Club and opened it for play in January 1933. This course, and club, is famous throughout the world because of the Masters Tournament which is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Those who know about quality golf courses regard Augusta National as one of the most revered golf courses on the PGA Tour. Because it is on the tour, fans have had the opportunity to become familiar with the beauty and landscape of this prestigious course.  Augusta National is amazingly beautiful during the first full week of April when the Azaleas are in full-bloom as well as the trees and shrubs that border every hole. It is worthy to note that because everything it in full bloom that the pollen is especially prevalent so take the necessary precautions.

It is also worth noting that many of Augusta restaurant menus change to different selections and the fares are offered at higher prices during “masters” week. Normal routines are disrupted and schools are always closed for "Masters Week

The Augusta Riverwalk is a six-block scenic pathway that follows the Savannah River levee, and offers pedestrian access to the river as well as a public plaza. The Riverwalk is considered and is managed by the city. The park is alongside and on top of Augusta's levee, and extends from 11th Street to the Gordon Highway Bridge. Downtown Augusta offers a variety of shops and eateries to sate the appetites of vacationers and tourists. It has a well established business center with many great restaurants as well as unique art and antique shops. Easily a day can be spent touring and enjoying the many things to do here.

Thurmond Lake is one of the Southeast´s largest and most popular public recreational lakes. The lake was built by United States Army Corps of Engineers during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Thurmond Lake is one of the top 10 most visited lakes constructed by the Corps of Engineers in the nation. Each year millions of people take advantage of the public parks, marinas, and campgrounds located around the lake. Thurmond Lake borders Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah River, Broad River, and Little River. The entire Thurmond project area contains 151,000 acres of water and land.

Many vacationers and visitors come to enjoy The Greater Augusta Arts Council’s Annual Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival that takes place in Downtown Augusta.  The three-day festival includes ethnic groups as well as local, regional, and national entertainment. There are a variety of activities and delicious ethnic foods around every corner.

All in all, Augusta is a great place to visit. There are things to do and see for vacationers of all ages. A trip well worth taking!!
