Holden Beach is the largest of the three South Brunswick Islands with over 11 miles of clean sandy beaches. It’s not heavily populated which makes it a great destination for a family vacation. Commercialization has not crept in for the most part because of the foresight of the city planners placing a restriction of 35 feet in height for buildings. The city has worked hard in maintaining a wholesome reputation; a point noticed by the National Geographic Traveler magazine by recognizing Holden Beach as one of America’s “best family beaches”.
There are miles of jogging and biking trails if you need to burn off some calories. However, it’s perfectly acceptable to sit under an umbrella with a book or slowly walk the shoreline looking for shells. After all, it’s your vacation! Remember, Holden faces south so the sun will rise to your left and set to your right. You can enjoy sunrise and sunset without moving your chair. How cool is that?
Probably the most enticing lure to Holden Beach is the abundance of fishable waters. With the many launch ramps for boats, you can put in near Lockwood Folly and troll for flounder, fish the jetties or the Intracoastal Waterway. For a super exciting time you can charter a boat and head to the Gulf Stream and fish for the big ones.
Holden is convenient to Wilmington if a little night life or entertainment is what you’re looking for. Take the ferry from Southport, pop in and visit Fort Fisher then head into downtown Wilmington. The cobblestone roads, carriage rides and old rustic buildings will remind you of what low country life was like back in the day.
Come to Holden Beach and take a break. Unwind and enjoy a week with us.
