Not many small towns have a claim to fame. Everyone knows that the world’s largest ball of twine resides in Cawker City, Ks., and the worlds’ largest mailbox, golf tee, pitchfork, rocking chair, wind chime, knitting needles, and crochet hook call Casey, Illinois home. BUT, nowhere can you find the original house that was featured in the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie, except in Kingsland, Texas. It’s understandable if that makes you a little apprehensive about visiting the home where Leatherface and his cannibalistic family resided, but never fear; they have all left. This iconic horror house has now been transformed into the quaint Grand Central Cafe restaurant. Enjoy a delicious chicken fried steak with no sign of chainsaws in sight.
Now that I have your attention, this eclectic home is just one reason to vacation in Kingsland. It’s truly a beautiful town to visit and spend some time, but the true beauty of Kingsland doesn’t lie only in the city, but also in the surrounding areas.
Kingsland is the perfect vacation destination because of the many year round activities; tourists can plenty to. Kingsland is at the junction of the Colorado River and Llano River, which combine to form Lake LBJ, and by population standards, it is a small, quiet lake community. Here you can find lake front vacation rental homes, lodging and cabins that will provide endless fun on the lake that include - fishing, swimming, boating, water-skiing, wake boarding or just relaxing by the water’s edge. Both Lake LBJ and nearby Inks Lake are constant level lakes, meaning the lakes stay full year round when other Texas lakes dip due to droughts. This is an important feature if you like water sports, or just love embracing the calm of a serene lake.
Kingsland Community Park is a great place to gather with friends. It is located along Lake LBJ and is open all year. The Park offers a ramp for interested boaters, but requires a small fee to use it. Come enjoy Kingsland Park and swim and fish in Lake LBJ and picnic on the banks.
Kingsland has one recognizable landmark, but it has many unforgettable treasures. Come see us…
