Makaha, Hawaii Vacation Rentals

About Makaha, Hawaii

Only in Hawaii can the seasons be so much the same and so different at the same time. During the winter months the average temperature is 78 degrees. The surfers are happy because the waters are turbulent which causes big wonderful waves that travel the breadth of the Pacific to pound the shores of these islands. Makaha is situated on the western side of the Big Island and the big waves find refuge as they crash upon the white sands of Makaha.  In the winter months, the surf is up along with a strong shorebreak and rip currents. This is when Makaha Beach is deluged with experienced surfers. The town's main attraction is the beach, especially among surfers. In fact, Makaha Beach is among the most popular beaches for surfing in the world. Every year surf events take place here, such as the Town and Country Pro, the Buffalo's Big Board Classic and the Rell Sunn's Menehune Surfing Championships. It's an ideal spot for surfers of all skill levels. Wave heights reach anywhere from 2 feet just behind the reef to 30+ feet at a place called the Makaha Bowl. Some of the biggest waves ever have been ridden here, including Greg Noll's famous ride during the huge swell of 1969 when waves were between 40 to 50 feet high.

The winter months are also the best for whale watching off the Makaha Hawaii coast. If you are looking to enjoy such pursuits, you will definitely want to vacation in Makaha during the winter months.

However, if you're looking to enjoy a relaxing beach vacation, Makaha Hawaii is a destination you will do well to consider during the summer months when the average temperature is 78 degrees as well.  Makaha, Hawaii offers visitors easy access to clean beautiful sandy beaches and is a wonderful place to watch the sun go down. Once winter passes, the water conditions off the Makaha Hawaii coast calm down, allowing for other activities, such as swimming, snorkeling and body boarding. The swimming is better in the summer months when the ocean is generally calmer.

Many tourists planning a vacation to Makaha look to visit places such as Makaha Beach Park, which boasts a picturesque sandy beach, lifeguards, and ample facilities. There are plenty of other sandy stretches up and down the coast if you are looking for somewhere else to sunbathe, swim, surf, or watch sunsets. At some point, those who travel to Makaha for relaxation might like to complement their beach time with other activities.

No doubt about it, Makaha, Hawaii is a city you want to visit. If you’re a surfer, this place is awesome. As we said back in the day, “you’ll be totally stoked”.
