Coral Bay, Saint John Island Vacation Rentals

About Coral Bay, Saint John Island

According to Webster’s dictionary, vacation is described as an extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home in order to relax. Think about that for a second, and then think back and remember when you planned a vacation full of busy stuff. Coordinating times each day in order to pack in all the sights you want to see. Now, was that a time you spent away from home and relaxed? It’s been said many times that a person needs a vacation just to recover from a vacation. Not so when you come to St. John, Virgin Islands.

St. John is the smallest yet most beautiful of the three United States Virgin Islands. The island is best known for its dozens of perfect white sand beaches, tranquil bays teeming with colorful coral, a multitude of colorful tropical fish, and lush green rolling hills that stretch to infinity and beyond, or so it seems. St. John's unspoiled beauty is by far the most breath taking in the Caribbean.

Only nine miles long and three miles wide, two thirds of St. John is protected by the Virgin Islands National Park and forbidden from further growth. The spectacular beaches and untouched forests will remain that way for all to enjoy for generations to come. It’s hard to imagine that St. John was clear cut and planted in sugar cane at one time.

Tourists and vacationers coming to St. John must take a mental step back in order to fully appreciate the definition of vacation. With the exception of the national forest and the activities that are offered, there’s really not much to do.  There are tours of the National Park by Jeep, safari bus, by walking trails. Led by Park Rangers, these tours are enhanced with talks about the island's history, its geology, and the different species of its flora and fauna. Of course, any water activity imaginable is waiting for you to enjoy.

It may sound as though you’re trapped in one spot once you arrive at St. John, but actually getting around the island is easy. Cruz Bay is where the ferry docks and is the hub for coming and going on the island. From there you will find that the island is interconnected by paved roads that go to most of the bays and beaches.

Two things that are necessary to sustain life are food and drink. Although St. John is not very populated, it has a large selection of restaurants offering local cuisine as well as traditional foods.  The drinks are as easy to find as the food. Just be careful and don’t get dehydrated by drinking too many adult beverages and not enough water. Many of the hotels, restaurants and bars offer evening entertainment performed by a great many talented singers, dancers and musicians.

Once you have visited the lovely island of St. John, you will probably want to come back for another visit, and another, and another.
