Colonial Beach, Virginia Vacation Rentals

About Colonial Beach, Virginia

Colonial Beach, Virginia is a peaceful resort town located on the Potomac River. Colonial Beach has the second longest public beach in Virginia and has long been a vacation destination for tourists. The Northern Neck region of Virginia is steeped in a rich heritage of American history and Colonial Beach shares that history proudly. As a matter of fact, long before there were roads to Colonial Beach, vacationers from Washington would come by boat and ferry to enjoy the unspoiled beauty and serenity.

When the weather turns warm, and the days begin to lengthen, tourists start their journeys to the shores of Colonial Beach. The town of Colonial Beach Virginia is responsible for the municipal beach where lifeguards are on duty during the summer season. This wide stretch of sand offers sun bathers plenty of room to stretch out and relax without someone blocking your sun.

Many vacationers stay in the Colonial Beach area and use it as a base while exploring the historical sites in and around it. George Washington and Robert E. Lee were born nearby and have ancestral homes open to the public. Colonial Beach Virginia was first known as Monrovia, and was named after an ancestor of President James Monroe

Boating is a popular pastime along the coast of Colonial Beach. Several boat ramps and marinas are available along the shore. Many of these crafts are charter boats that carry anglers off shore in search of game fish. Colonial Beach also has a fishing pier, simply called the Colonial Beach Municipal Pier. Local outfitters can equip you with the gear, guides, and anything else you need in the way of fishing. The pier also is a gathering place for special events and firework displays.

Anglers also cast their lines at Westmoreland State Park, a short drive from the town of Colonial Beach. As long as you have a valid Maryland or Virginia fishing license, you’re allowed to fish from a boat. No licenses are needed to if you’re planning to fish from the pier or the shore. Anglers from all around know the park as one of the best places around for saltwater fishing. Striped bass and bluefish are especially common here, while catfish and bass are in abundance at Rock Spring Pond.

There is no shortage of fine restaurants and eateries in Colonial Beach. Visitors can feast on locally caught seafood, surf and turf, family restaurants, oyster bars as well as all of the fast food chains you might find anywhere.
