The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a must-see for all fans because it is a common thread that connects generations to the fascinating story of America's pastime, and no trip to Cooperstown is complete without a visit to this national treasure and Doubleday Field a few blocks away.

When you hear the name of this quaint little town of Cooperstown, what comes to mind? That’s right baseball, America’s game.  Home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown is steeped in history and national pride. Taking a stroll down Main Street will not let you forget where you are by the names of the small locally owned shops and taverns such as Hardball Café and Cooperstown Bat Company.  With a population of just over 2,000, Cooperstown receivesevery year by 500,000 visitors, many of them baseball-obsessed. It is, after all, home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

However, there is more to Cooperstown NY than baseball. If you plan on staying for a few nights, there will be time to search out the other fun activities. There are quaint little cafes and restaurants throughout the town as well as museums, souvenir and gift shops, and baseball themed outlets.

Cooperstown, NY borders Lake Otsego, a deep water lake that offers a multitude of water attractions. There are sandy beaches that have life guards during the summer months and they also have Pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes and runabouts that are available for rent. Here’s a historical bit of trivia; James Fennimore Cooper used Lake Otsego as a back drop in several of his novels, the most well know of course being The Last of the Mohicans.  As a matter of fact, Cooper’s father William founded the settlement of Cooperstown in 1786.
