Seabrook, Washington is one of the youngest towns in America. The buildings in this small village still have their original roofing, the HVACs haven’t been replaced, and the appliances are running like new. Yep, Seabrook was founded in 2004 by Casey Roloff, a young man who had the vision to start the town. Casey didn’t trust himself to begin the development of this town himself. He gathered a group of leading architects, developers, landscape architects, and others from around the country for a major group brainstorming and planning session. Together, they came up with a master plan that encompassed the best ideas from planned communities around the United States. It was decided that Seabrook would be a pedestrian friendly community with the ability to find everything you need within a 5 minute walk in town.
Seabrook quickly became the fastest growing coastal vacation destination in the Pacific Northwest. A Coastal Living Idea House was built there in 2010. Sunset magazine awarded Seabrook their first ever Idea Town in 2012. It’s almost like a modern day “Mayberry”. The town was designed to be pedestrian friendly, keeping residents’ needs within a five minute walk. Residents are connected to all retail and common areas. The extensive pedestrian network uses eco-friendly materials such as boardwalks, gravel, reclaimed crushed oyster shell and shredded cedar mulch. In addition to promenades and walking trails galore, residents have a central amphitheater, a hilltop park, a town plaza, a playground, a pavilion, a town hall, a heated indoor pool, fire pits, horseshoe pits and spacious Crescent Park, all of which encourage gatherings big and small.
Seaside was inspired by a sense of community, combined with easy accessibility to goods and services. Today’s “new urbanism” movement embraces the notion of sustainability, eliciting inherent appeal to a simpler time, before cars, when people lived near where they shopped, celebrated the arts and good food and placed great importance on green space. Cars are welcome but discretely stowed in carefully conceived lanes and in carriage houses behind homes. Bikes and flip flops are the preferred means of transportation in Seabrook.
Seabrook, Washington is small and simple. The locals are laid back and welcoming. This small village is an oasis if you’re at the end of your last nerve. Come see us and take a load off. The entire Seabrook experience is an unforgettable time.
Come, see for yourself.
