Back in the day, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina was taught in every history class in America that this small burg was the birthplace of flight; a place so small and yet every child in the country recognized it.
Kitty Hawk is the first town after crossing the Wright Memorial Bridge. Kitty Hawk’s central location on the Outer Banks makes it convenient for vacationers to visit both the northern and southern Outer Banks. North of Kitty Hawk takes you to the Whalehead Club and Currituck Lighthouse, you can head south to Roanoke Island or the Hatteras Lighthouse!
The beaches are the reason most vacationers flock to Kitty Hawk. They are clean and beautiful. The beach and town consist of mostly single-family homes, both residential and rental. The town of Kitty Hawk has a bustling Village that has survived and flourished for generations.
Kitty Hawk gained notoriety after the Wright brothers made the first manned flight at the Kill Devil Hills, four miles south of Kitty Hawk, on December 17, 1903. After the flights, the brothers walked back to Kitty Hawk, where they sent a telegram from the Weather Bureau office to their father informing him of their success.
The once-tiny village of Kitty Hawk is now one of the largest townships on the Outer Banks. There are now thousands of rental homes, restaurants and shops that call Kitty Hawk, NC home.
