Walk to The Marina in flip-flops, eat dinner with the kids in tow, and be back at the villa before anyone gets tired. La Sultana sits in Bahía Chavón on the lagoon's north shore — a Balinese pavilion estate built for two families or a multi-generation group who want a Marina-walkable base. Five bedrooms sleep ten across the main villa and a separate elevated guest bungalow, with a cook handling all the meals at home when you're not eating out.
The property is big enough that no one is on top of anyone in the morning. Someone wakes first and walks the stone path through the garden. The lagoon is glassy on the other side of the hedge. The kids run to the play structure that's just theirs. The octagonal guest pavilion next door gives older cousins a place to sleep on their own schedule. By midday everyone converges on the main pool. The wooden deck between it and the smaller plunge collects the towels. Lunch goes long outside under deep eaves. At the end of the day, you rinse off at the outdoor shower under a hand-painted mural.
The Marina is close enough to walk to without thinking about it. Out the front gate, down the road, and you're at the pier in the time it takes to finish a conversation. Minitas Beach is a short cart ride west when you want sand, and Altos de Chavón is a short drive up the river for the evening. La Sultana is the villa to book when two families want a base they can leave on foot and come back to without anyone watching the time.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Does La Sultana work for two families travelling together?
Yes — La Sultana is laid out for two families or a multi-generation group of ten. Five bedrooms split between the main villa and a separate elevated guest bungalow, so older cousins or grandparents can sleep on their own schedule. A kids' bunk room and a crib sit in the main villa, with an outdoor play area right outside. The living room, dining table, kitchen, and pool deck all hold the whole group together, and a cook handles breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Q: How is the villa set up for kids?
La Sultana is set up for kids with intention. The bunk room sleeps the children in bright blue striped linen, and a crib is already in place for an infant. The outdoor play area has a climbing frame, a slide, and a trampoline set in the garden. Two pools mean the smaller round plunge can hold a couple of toddlers while the older kids use the main pool. Bedtime is easy because The Marina is walkable for an early dinner out, then a short walk home before anyone gets cranky.
Q: How does La Sultana compare to La Darsena, the other walk-to-Marina rental at Casa de Campo?
La Darsena is the other Casa de Campo address you can walk to The Marina from — a contemporary two-bedroom townhouse a few steps from the pier. La Sultana is a different scale. It's a five-bedroom Balinese pavilion estate with two pools, a thatched gazebo, an octagonal guest bungalow, and a kids' play area in the garden, set in a residential pocket on the north shore of Bahía Chavón. Book La Darsena for couples or a small group; book La Sultana for two families or a ten-guest group who want the Marina walk and a destination villa to come back to.
Q: What makes La Sultana's architecture different from other Casa de Campo villas?
La Sultana is the rare Casa de Campo villa built in a genuine Balinese pavilion style. The estate has multiple structures rather than one footprint: a main villa with steep terracotta pyramidal roofs and deep eaves, and a separate octagonal guest bungalow elevated on its own platform among the palms. The arrival sequence runs through a hand-painted tile entrance gate, past twin water features, and into a corridor with an interior reflecting pond before the living rooms open up. Inside, the décor is more eclectic than most of Casa de Campo, with bold pattern walls, carved four-poster beds, and a mix of African and tropical artwork instead of the cream-coastal palette you'll see in other villas.
